The first step is to paint and/or put the
decal onto the aerators. I decided to try the decals, & I began
by first gutting the aerator & spraying it with some windex. I
then carefully wrapped the decal around it. It overlaps a bit, &
is quite a bit taller than the actual piece. |

Just another shot showing the decaled
aerator. |
 |
Here you can see that I left out that white
piece. Air COULD get through with that in there, but not enough. |
 |
I first drilled the recommended holes in the
helmet as pilot holes. |
 |
An inside view of the pilot holes. |
 |
Next I marked the inside of the helmet with
the approximate size of the aerators. What I did was to unscrew the
back piece of the aerators. I couldn't get a good picture of it, but
the inner portion(that actually screws into the rest of the aerator) is
smaller than the back of it. I traced this inner portion & used
the dremel to carefully cut out the holes. I would only removed a
VERY small bit at a time & kept test-fitting the back of the aerator
until it JUST fit through the holes. |
 |
Here's a rear view of the resulting holes. |
 |
Once drilled out, I stick the rear portion of
the aerators through the BACK of the faceplate. Then it's pretty
simple to screw the rest of the aerator on the front of the helmet. |
 |
Perhaps a better view of how the back is
assembled. |
 |
And the completed aerator assembly. My
only gripe is that the aerators now don't stick out as much as they
"should." I'll either live with it, or find a way to
attach the whole aerator to the outside of the faceplate. The good
thing about the current mod is that I can simply unscrew them! |
