So it was sometime in late April/Early May 1999, & my friend suggests that we go to opening of The Phantom Menace in costume! We looked into renting costumes, but that seemed very cost prohibitive so we decided to go the cheap route. He was very much into the "Expanded Universe", so he devised a version of a New Order Jedi.(Complete with Park Saber?) I don't remember how, but I decided that being Darth Maul(at least from the head up) wouldn't be too hard. *shakes head* I don't know if there was an internet community of costumers at the time, but if there was I never found it. Instead I hit the local costume shop & started buying stuff. Far too much $$$ later I only had some makeup, horns, adhesive, & a bald cap. That, a t-shirt, & a Toys 'R Us saber WAS my costume. *so embarrassed* My buddy's mom helped paint my face & she did a great job! When we arrived(and on the way there) I got a nice amount of attention, but later on in the night someone with a GREAT Darth Maul costume showed up & I was determined to do better for Episode II. |
